ATJ7056 - Rear axle sleeve
Note: this part requires heating to fit (see workshop manual/note for fitting instructions).
Fitted to the following tractors :
Nuffield M4, PM4, DM4 gearbox serial no. 1-34910 on, INPT501 on, 4010-501 on, 4013-501 on (old part no. NT7244)
Nuffield 3DL, 4DM, 342, 460, 10/42 before serial no 89156,
Nuffield 10/60 before serial no 89156 with both standard axle and sliding hub type axle.
Important -Â Check length of sleeve before ordering as later 10/42 and 10/60 are fitted with ATJ7784
ATJ7056 is 41mm long
ATJ7784 is 45mm long

Fitting instructions
To remove the old sleeve from the axle, heat the sleeve with the gas bottles until cherry red and it will drop off.
Then allow the half shaft to cool and clean the journal where the sleeve fits with emery cloth.
When fitting the new sleeve you need to heat to a dark straw colour uniformly, a tip we use is to place the sleeve on a steel plate and heat the plate with the gas bottles on the underside (this should get a more uniform heat distribution all over the new sleeve).
Stand the half shaft on the floor and drop the heated sleeve over the shaft, it should fall into place and then cool and shrink to the shaft.
The following gaskets are used when replacing the rear axle sleeve. These can be ordered seperately.
