Throughout your Leyland 4/98 engine, the gas- and fluid-tight seals between two surfaces are vital for its efficiency and performance; for example, the head gasket, part number NKJ202, and sump gasket, part number 96K614, are two of the most well-known gaskets in the Leyland 4/98 engine. Some prevent water leaking into bores or mixing with oil and others stop gases from entering waterways, causing a build-up of pressure in the cooling system. Faults can lead to overheating and even permanent damage to your engine. Some gaskets are made of paper, some of cork, some are heat resistant and some like the head gasket are a modern composite. Modern composite head gaskets, such as the one we supply for the Leyland 4/98 engine comprise of 3 layers of material. These three layers cure with heat exposure, meaning that they are great for older engines where there may be some distortion in the cylinder head face or the engine block face. It is recommended that you tighten down the cylinder head three times when using these composite gaskets – once when the engine is cold, again when the engine is warm after about 5 minutes of running, and finally once the engine is hot. This allows the gasket to cure to the cylinder head and block faces and ensures a tight seal. You know that you have done this process correctly, only when you take the head gasket off and it should stick to both faces and tear as you remove the cylinder head. These composite head gaskets work brilliantly and are great for the Leyland 4/98 engines in the Marshall 802, as well as other Marshall models.
Most of the gaskets in the Tractor Spare Parts range are manufactured in the UK, where we can work with the expert gasket-makers to ensure the correct material is used for each gaskets requirements. The correct thickness of gasket paper, as well as the correct material, is vital to the success of the gasket. The most important thing about the gasket is the shape and here at Tractor Spare Parts Ltd we get tools made specifically for Leyland engine gaskets, meaning you can have the convenience of a ready-made gasket for your Leyland 4/98 engine in your Marshall 802 or Leyland 802 tractor.
