Quality replacement magnetic sump drain plug supplied complete with a copper sealing washer, suitable for a wide range of Leyland and Marshall tractors.
This magnetic drain plug performs the same function as a standard sump plug while incorporating a powerful magnet that attracts and collects fine ferrous (steel) particles circulating in the engine oil. By trapping these particles before they continue to circulate through the lubrication system, the magnetic drain plug can help reduce engine wear and provide a useful indication of internal engine condition during routine servicing.
Unlike a standard drain plug, the 42H1022 magnetic sump plug contains a permanent magnet within its tip. As the engine oil circulates, microscopic steel particles created through normal engine wear are attracted to the magnet, preventing them from continuing to circulate through the engine.
During routine oil changes, inspecting the magnetic tip can provide a useful indication of engine condition. A light coating of very fine metallic particles is considered normal on high-mileage or regularly used engines. However, excessive quantities of metal fragments or larger particles may indicate abnormal internal wear and could justify further investigation before more serious damage occurs.
The sump plug is supplied complete with an AED172 copper sealing washer, ensuring a reliable oil-tight seal when installed. As with all copper sealing washers, we recommend fitting a new washer whenever the sump plug is removed as part of routine servicing.
