ATJ1027 is the fibre washer fitted behind the plug sleeve (ATJ7240 or NT8064) in the dual clutch drive sleeve coupling on a wide range of Nuffield, Leyland and Marshall tractors.
Although inexpensive, this fibre washer performs a vital function by supporting the plug sleeve within the gearbox primary shaft. It is an essential part of the assembly and must always be fitted whenever the plug sleeve is installed or replaced.
Failure to fit this washer can allow the plug sleeve to fail, potentially resulting in loss of drive, unnecessary repairs and additional downtime.
The plug sleeve must never be fitted without this fibre washer.
The ATJ1027 fibre washer fits behind the plug sleeve and provides essential support. Omitting this washer leaves the plug sleeve unsupported, allowing it to move under load and potentially fracture during operation.
This small, inexpensive component can prevent a much more costly repair.

The fibre washer is fitted behind the plug sleeve inside the end of the gearbox primary shaft and forms an essential part of the dual clutch drive sleeve coupling assembly. Although simple in appearance, it provides the support required for the plug sleeve to operate correctly.
One of the most common mistakes made during clutch repairs is to omit the fibre washer or reuse one that is damaged or deteriorated. Without the washer in place, the plug sleeve is no longer correctly supported and can fracture under load. Replacing the resulting broken components often involves considerably more work than fitting a new fibre washer during reassembly.
For this reason, we strongly recommend fitting a new ATJ1027 fibre washer whenever the clutch, drive sleeve coupling or plug sleeve is dismantled. It is inexpensive insurance against a much more costly repair.
When carrying out work on the drive sleeve coupling, it is also good practice to inspect the retaining pin and snap ring, replacing any worn or damaged components before reassembly.
