ATJ7240 is the plug sleeve fitted into the end of the gearbox primary shaft on a wide range of Nuffield, Leyland and Marshall tractors. It forms an important part of the dual clutch drive sleeve coupling assembly, ensuring the coupling is correctly located and operates as intended. 2 plug sleeves are fitted per drive coupling
The ATJ1027 fibre washer must always be fitted behind the plug sleeve.
This inexpensive fibre washer provides essential support for the plug sleeve. If it is omitted, the plug sleeve is unsupported and can fracture during operation, potentially causing unnecessary damage to the drive sleeve coupling assembly.
We've produced a short video demonstrating the correct assembly procedure and explaining why the fibre washer is so important.

Always fit this plug sleeve together with:
The fibre washer fits behind the plug sleeve and is an essential part of the assembly.
Do not omit the fibre washer. Without it, the plug sleeve is unsupported and can break during operation.
Early Nuffield M4, PM4, 4DM and 3DL tractors are fitted with the alternative NT8064 plug sleeve.
If you are unsure which version your tractor requires, please contact us before ordering and we will be happy to advise.

For a complete repair, you may also require:
The plug sleeve is fitted into the end of the gearbox primary shaft and forms part of the dual clutch drive sleeve coupling assembly. Although it appears to be a simple component, it relies on the ATJ1027 fibre washer being fitted behind it to provide the correct support.
A common mistake during clutch repairs is to omit the fibre washer or reuse a damaged one. Without this washer in place, the plug sleeve can fracture under load, leading to unnecessary repairs and additional downtime.
While carrying out work on the drive sleeve coupling, it is also advisable to inspect the retaining pin and snap ring. Replacing worn or damaged components during reassembly helps ensure the complete assembly operates reliably.
For early Nuffield M4, PM4, 4DM and 3DL tractors, an alternative plug sleeve (NT8064) was fitted. Always check which version your tractor requires before ordering.
