ATJ5612 is the retaining pin used to secure the drive sleeve coupling (ATJ5611) on dual clutch Nuffield, Leyland and Marshall tractors. Two retaining pins are required for each drive sleeve coupling and should always be fitted together with the ATJ5613 snap ring.
These pins play an important role in securing the drive sleeve assembly, ensuring reliable transmission of drive through the clutch mechanism. During clutch or gearbox repairs, they should be carefully inspected for wear or damage and replaced if necessary.
The retaining pin should always be secured using the ATJ5613 snap ring.
Reusing worn retaining pins or damaged snap rings can lead to unnecessary wear and unreliable retention of the drive sleeve assembly.
While dismantling the drive sleeve coupling, it is also important to check that the ATJ7240 (or NT8064) plug sleeve has the ATJ1027 fibre washer correctly fitted behind it. Omitting this fibre washer is a common assembly mistake that can cause the plug sleeve to fracture.

The retaining pins locate and secure the ATJ5611 drive sleeve coupling, allowing the clutch drive to be transmitted reliably through the gearbox input shaft. As these components are subjected to repeated loading during normal clutch operation, they should always be inspected whenever the clutch assembly is dismantled.
Any retaining pin showing signs of wear, damage or distortion should be replaced. The ATJ5613 snap ring should also be renewed if it has lost tension or has become damaged, ensuring the retaining pin remains securely located.
When carrying out work on the drive sleeve coupling, it is also advisable to inspect the plug sleeve and fibre washer. A common cause of plug sleeve failure is the omission of the ATJ1027 fibre washer, which supports the plug sleeve within the gearbox primary shaft.
Replacing all worn components while the clutch is dismantled helps improve long-term reliability and reduces the likelihood of future failures.
