ATJ5613 is the snap ring used to secure the ATJ5612 retaining pin in the ATJ5611 drive sleeve coupling on dual clutch Nuffield, Leyland and Marshall tractors.
Each drive sleeve requires two snap rings.
Although small and inexpensive, these snap rings perform the vital task of retaining the drive sleeve pins securely in position. Whenever the drive sleeve coupling is dismantled, they should be carefully inspected and replaced if worn, damaged or distorted.
Never reuse damaged or weakened snap rings.
The snap rings retain the ATJ5612 retaining pins, helping to keep the drive sleeve coupling correctly assembled. If a snap ring has become distorted, damaged or has lost its spring tension, it should be replaced during reassembly.
While carrying out work on the drive sleeve coupling, it is also important to check that the ATJ7240 (or NT8064) plug sleeve has the ATJ1027 fibre washer correctly fitted behind it. Omitting this fibre washer is a common assembly mistake that can cause the plug sleeve to fracture.

The snap ring is fitted to each end of the ATJ5612 retaining pin, preventing the pin from moving out of the ATJ5611 drive sleeve coupling during operation. Although these are small components, they are essential to the integrity of the complete drive sleeve assembly.
Snap rings should always be inspected whenever the clutch or gearbox is dismantled. Any ring showing signs of distortion, wear or loss of spring tension should be replaced, as it may no longer retain the pin securely.
When rebuilding the drive sleeve coupling, it is good practice to inspect all associated components, including the retaining pins, plug sleeve and fibre washer. One of the most common causes of plug sleeve failure is the omission of the ATJ1027 fibre washer, which supports the plug sleeve within the gearbox primary shaft. Replacing all worn components while the assembly is dismantled helps improve long-term reliability and reduces the risk of future failures.
