17H172 is a replacement fuel tap cork seal for selected Nuffield tractors fitted with the original fuel sediment bowl assembly. This cork seal fits inside the fuel tap and provides the seal between the rotating tap spindle and the tap body, helping to prevent fuel leaks while allowing the fuel supply to be turned on and off.
Over time, the original cork seal can dry out, wear or become damaged, resulting in fuel weeping from the tap. Replacing the cork seal is often all that is required to restore the tap to good working order.
Please check your tractor model and serial number before ordering, as this seal was not fitted to all Nuffield tractors.

The original Nuffield fuel sediment bowl assembly incorporates a manually operated fuel shut-off tap. Inside this tap is a cork seal that compresses against the tap body to prevent fuel escaping while still allowing the tap to be operated.
After many years of service, the cork can dry out, shrink or wear, causing fuel to seep from around the tap spindle. In many cases, replacing the cork seal will restore the tap and eliminate the leak.
However, if the tap body or spindle has become excessively worn, replacing the cork seal alone may not completely cure the problem. In these cases, many owners choose our ATJ3097 Improved Fuel Sediment Bowl Assembly, which eliminates the fuel tap altogether and removes one of the most common sources of fuel weeping on these tractors.
When servicing the original sediment bowl assembly, it is also good practice to inspect the glass bowl (27H2268), glass bowl gasket (27H1330) and fuel sediment bowl filter (27H2272), replacing any worn or damaged components as necessary.
